Understanding the Prince Edward Island scoring system
Prince Edward Island scores Express Entry candidates out of 100, blending standard human-capital factors with a long list of island connections worth five points each. Work experience and language carry the largest single weights at up to 20 points apiece, and the age bands favour candidates between 25 and 29. Because so many small connection factors exist, two candidates with identical resumes can differ by 20 or more points based on ties to the province alone.
The connection factors reward things applicants sometimes overlook: a year of continuous full-time PEI work, current employment on a valid permit, graduation from a recognized island institution, close family present for a year or more, owned residential property, a spouse’s language results and a spouse’s recent work history.
