BC PNP priority occupations: Care, Build and Innovate
On April 23, 2026 British Columbia reorganized Skills Immigration around three priorities, which now shape almost every draw. Your registration score matters, but which pillar your occupation falls into often matters more, because the targeted pillars use lower cut-offs than the open route.
Care and Build are occupation-specific and tend to have the lowest cut-offs and the largest share of invitations. Innovate is open to any occupation with a qualifying BC job offer and selects on wage or score, which is also where technology workers now compete after the separate tech draws ended. The exact occupation lists and cut-offs change every round, so confirm your NOC and the current rules on the official guide.
Care
Around 36 designated occupations across health care, childcare, French-language K to 12 teaching and veterinary care, including registered nurses, care aides, physiotherapists and dental hygienists.
Build
Nine designated construction trades tied to housing and infrastructure, such as carpenters, electricians, plumbers and ironworkers, with priority for work outside Metro Vancouver.
Innovate
Open to any occupation with a qualifying permanent BC job offer, selected by wage level or score. Technology roles such as software engineers, data scientists and cybersecurity specialists compete here.
Direct-entry streams
Health Authority and International Post-Graduate applicants can apply without registering, obtaining a score or being invited, where they meet the stream conditions.

How the BC PNP score is structured
The Skills Immigration registration score has two broad parts. Human-capital factors measure directly related experience, education and language, with up to 40 points available in each category. Economic factors measure the offered hourly wage and the location of employment in British Columbia.

Before relying on the result
This calculator estimates registration points only. It does not test every stream requirement, employer requirement, occupation restriction or invitation factor. Confirm that your job offer, employer support, language results and work experience satisfy the current program guide.
Current invitations may also focus on high economic impact, priority care or construction occupations, wage thresholds or other attributes. A score above a previous draw level does not create a right to an invitation.
What usually separates competitive registrations
Because language, education and experience each cap at 40 points, most registrants who have been in their field for several years land in a similar human-capital range. What tends to move a registration up or down is the economic side of the grid. The hourly wage in the supporting job offer carries up to 55 points on its own, which is why two candidates with identical resumes can sit far apart in the pool when one offer pays a few dollars more per hour. Location matters as well, since employment outside the Vancouver area can add area points that a Metro Vancouver offer cannot.
A practical way to use this calculator is to test scenarios rather than a single answer. Enter your current situation first, then check what changes if your regular wage increases at renewal, if you finish a credential you are already enrolled in, or if you retake a language test and lift your lowest ability by one benchmark. Since language points use the lowest of your four results, raising one weak ability is often cheaper and faster than improving a score that is already strong.
Keep your documents aligned with whatever you enter. The wage points come from the regular hourly rate written in the offer of employment, not from what you expect to earn with overtime. Work-experience points depend on experience that is directly related to the offered occupation, so employment letters should describe duties, not just titles. If the paperwork cannot support a claim, it is safer to leave those points out of your planning.
